Clairo Shade Is Everywhere
In a house, on a mouse, in a take, on a cake.
But people started noticing it in 2024, and it first went viral on July 10, when a user pointed out the Clairo shade inherent to Katy Perry’s 143 album announcement. The meme blew up largely as a parody of stan culture’s tendency to refocus everything back onto their idol, like when Prince Philip’s death caused a Swiftie to tweet “We should all come together and stream Fearless in his honor.” Basically, the Clairo-shade meme is a way of poking fun at the myopia of modern stan culture. The event went viral, alongside incriminating photos of a hideous cake emblazoned with the words “Clairo shade.”
