CHRISTOPHER STEVENS reviews last night's TV: Vicky McClure's terrific as a woman on the edge in this ominous thriller

Christopher Stevens reviews last night's TV: Insomnia. Vicky McClure, plagued by sleepless nights as the fraught lawyer Emma in Insomnia, has a lot on her mind.

All this veers from suburban drama to full-on screaming horror movie, which gives McClure (pictured) plenty of opportunity to show what a versatile actress she is At night, though, while Robert lies slumbering (and not snoring, because he's perfect), Emma stumbles through the house with wild hair, rattling door knobs and chanting. This demands a performance much more subtle than her turn as a bomb disposal officer in ITV's Trigger Point, where her main acting challenge was to outrun exploding shrapnel while strapped into an armour-plated vest.
