Chrissy Metz says exec asked if This Is Us role was meant for plus-size actress 'like Kate Winslet'
After Chrissy Metz landed the role of Kate Pearson in 'This Is Us', series creator Dan Fogelman told her an exec once asked him if the 'plus-size' role was meant someone 'like Kate Winslet?'
Second of all, no, this is a real woman who's really dealt with weight issues and it's plagued her entire life," Metz said on an episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Show. Fogelman and Metz were recognized as groundbreaking for their humane, nonpatronizing portrayal of a plus-size woman as a mother, wife, daughter, and sister, not just as a vehicle for cultural commentary. She'd previously worked for years as an agent, appearing in small, single-episode parts on series like Entourage and American Horror Story.
