Chris Jasper, Isley Brothers Icon and R&B Innovator Passes Away at 73


The celebrated musician helped define the sound of funk and soul.

Chris Jasper, the influential musician and songwriter who played a pivotal role in shaping The Isley Brothers' sound during the 1970s and '80s, has died at the age of 73. They achieved chart success with the 1985 hit “Caravan of Love.” Two years later, Jasper embarked on a solo career, releasing multiple albums and founding Gold City Records. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame paid tribute, writing on X that Jasper “played a key role in defining the sound of soul and funk in the 1970s and 1980s.
