Chinese Distribution Company Hishow Launches We Love Cinema to Highlight Prestige Arthouse Films in China; Acquires Walter Salles’ ‘I’m Still Here’
Chinese distribution company Hishow has launched We Love Cinema, a label dedicated to highlighting arthouse films from around the world in China.
We Love Cinema will be developing innovative marketing initiatives, for instance a WeChat mini app boasting exclusive contents and bonuses, as well as early screenings and Q&A with filmmakers. One of its recent acquisitions include Walter Salles’ Brazilian family drama “I’m Still Here” which just won best international feature film at the Oscars, along with Salles’ 1998 film “Central Station.” Other recent pickups include the Oscar-nominated animated feature “Memoir of a Snail” from Australian stop-motion master Adam Elliot, as well as his classic “Mary and Max,” and French directing duo Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani’s action mystery thriller “Reflection in a Dead Diamond” which competed at the Berlinale. The company also re-released its Italian classic “The Legend of 1900” and Japanese anime “Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie.” Its library of critically acclaimed foreign films include Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s “Amélie,” Asghar Farhadi’s Oscar and Golden Bear winner “A Separation,” Matteo Garrone’s Oscar-nominated refugee drama “Io Capitano,” and “Morten Tyldum’s The Imitation Game” starring Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as its in-house production “Yanagawa” which won Best Picture at China’s Golden Rooster Awards.
