China Box Office: ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ Has Hollywood’s Best Opening This Year
At the mainland China box office: ‘Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire’ enjoys the biggest opening this year by a Hollywood movie.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’s” healthy performance was the fourth largest by a Hollywood title in the post-pandemic era. Imax reported that “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” earned $7.5 million on its screens in China, representing nearly 17% of its Chinese weekend haul. “Viva La Vida,” a Chinese film that was pulled from release during February’s Lunar New Year holiday season, returned to cinemas in previews last week and finally got its official re-release on Saturday (most films release in China on Fridays) earned $4.3 million from Saturday and Sunday screenings.
