Charli xcx to Star in and Produce ‘Audition’ Director Takashi Miike’s Next Film (EXCLUSIVE)
Charli xcx is set to star in and produce the next film from prolific Japanese director Takashi Miike, Variety understands.
The film marks the second project the multi-hyphenate — whose sixth studio album, “Brat,” continues to be a phenomenon — is producing through her new Studio365 banner, joining upcoming A24 movie “The Moment.” Though plot details are being kept under wraps, Miike is known for his depictions of extreme violence, as seen in his 1999 cult classic “Audition” and 2001’s “Ichi the Killer.” Ross Evans, whose script “How to Save a Marriage” is being developed for Sony with Robert Pattinson attached to produce, is penning the screenplay. Since launching “Brat” in June of last year — which earned the pop star three Grammys and was widely regarded as the best album of 2024 — Charli has turned her attention toward acting and producing, lining up an impressive array of projects. In addition to “The Moment,” which she’ll star in for director Aidan Zamiri, Charli will feature in Julia Jackman’s period fantasy “100 Nights of Hero” alongside Nicholas Galitzine and Emma Corrin; Pete Ohs and Jeremy O. Harris’ “Erupcja”; Daniel Goldhaber’s horror remake “Faces of Death”; Gregg Araki’s “I Want Your Sex” alongside Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman; Romain Gavras’ adventure comedy “Sacrifice”; and “The Gallerist,” a thriller directed by Cathy Yan and starring Natalie Portman, Jenna Ortega, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and more.
