Chappell Roan has attracted millions of new listeners in the year since she dropped her acclaimed debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, many of whom are eagerly waiting to hear what she makes next — and luckily for them, producer Dan Nigro has an update. One song on Roan’s next album that fans have already heard is “The Subway,” a belted ballad that the VMA winner premiered at Gov Ball in New York City this summer and has been performing on tour ever since. Roan has been very open about the downsides of fame she’s faced as her star has risen this year — from “predatory” fan behavior to mental-health strain — but Nigro also said that the topic “hasn’t come up in any songs” so far.
