Celine Dion's heartbreaking documentary praised by critics and lands 100% Rotten Tomatoes score - as 'vulnerable superstar' reveals all about stiff person syndrome battle: 'It's the opposite of a vanity project'
Celine Dion's heartbreaking documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, chronicling her battle with incurable stiff-person syndrome has been lauded by critics upon its release on Tuesday.
Time critic Rich Juzwiak said the film is the 'opposite of a vanity project' and praised Dion for her openness - including recording a difficult moment where she struggles to sing Foreigner's I Want To Know What Love Is due to the condition causing rigidness in the chest. Collider critic Isabella Soares wrote: 'Whenever an old video of Dion pops up on the screen, showing her effortlessly hitting the right notes to tracks like "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," it is usually followed up by footage of the icon in the present, breaking out in song and struggling to keep her voice from cracking. 'An emotional, energetic, and poetic love letter to music, I Am: Celine Dion captures more than a year of filming as the legendary singer navigates her journey toward living an open and authentic life amidst illness.'
