CBS Boss George Cheeks Addresses Grammys Moving To ABC: "We Weren't Prepared To Make An Uneconomic Deal"

That’s how CBS topper George Cheeks described the decision to say goodbye to the Grammy Awards ceremony, which has aired on the network for more than 50 years. It was a major loss for Paramount, but Cheeks told reporters Wednesday that “we just weren’t prepared to make an uneconomic deal.” CBS and The Recording Academy did not reach an agreement within the two sides’ exclusive negotiating window but CBS remained interested in retaining the Grammys, with talks continuing after the end of the exclusive period when the Academy also opened negotiations with other interested parties.
