Cannes-Winning Filmmaker Among CineGouna Funding Selection, Market Arm Returns for Sophomore Edition, Rising Stars Announced

CineGouna has updated its core programs to reflect its 'commitment to fostering creativity and supporting regional talent in the film industry.'

The former offers financial and artistic support to Arab film projects, while the latter provides professional development opportunities through industry discussions and workshops. Amongst the projects selected for CineGouna Funding is “A Pair of Shoes in the Dark Corner of the Moon,” the new film by Egyptian filmmaker Ayman El Amir, whose “The Brink of Dreams” won the Golden Eye at Cannes earlier in the year, and “Elsewhere,” by “Goodbye Julia” producer Issraa Elkogali Häggström. The inaugural cohort features Leila Basma (Lebanon, screenwriter and director of 2023 Venice Horizons entry “Sea Salt”), Mohammed Almughanni (Palestine, director Clermont-Ferrand Grand Prix-winning short “An Orange From Jaffa”), Dessil Mekhtigian (Egypt, director of “From the Work of the Devil”), Faris Alrjoob (Jordan, director of El Gouna-winning short “The Red Sea Makes Me Wanna Cry”), Rasha Hosny (Egypt, programer, critic and producer behind Venice Horizons entry “Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo”), and sibling directorial duo Noel and Michelle Keserwany (Lebanon, winners of the Golden Bear in 2023 for “Les Chenilles”).
