Cannes Short Film Winner Vasilis Kekatos Makes Feature Debut With Spirited, Coming-of-Age Berlinale Premiere ‘Our Wildest Days’
Vasilis Kekatos, who won the short film Palme d'Or in 2019, premieres his anticipated feature debut in Berlin's Generation 14plus sidebar.
Speaking to Variety ahead of the film’s premiere, Kekatos says he began working on “Our Wildest Days” not long after his Cannes triumph, when he was on the cusp of his 28th birthday — a period he describes as “a kind of utopia,” flush with the promise of youth but before the responsibilities of adult life kick in. But during the bitter island winters of his youth, after the tourists had fled their sun-soaked Mediterranean playground, he grew accustomed to a different side of life for the many Greeks struggling to make ends meet. With his long-gestating first feature finally set to bow, Kekatos has already begun developing two more films, as well as TV series “High Season,” a dark comedy satirizing the world of island tourism in Greece.
