Laetitia Ky speaks to Deadline about African culture, admiring the superhero genre and her Tunisian Cannes film 'Promised Sky.'
“I’ve always had a fascination for superheroes,” says the globe-trotting Ivorian artist and activist on a Zoom call from Monaco, where she is currently midway through a residency at the principality’s Quai Art Studios. Sehiri contacted Ky on Instagram, where she has half a million followers, after reading about her in the French edition of Elle magazine, as she was on the verge of traveling to the Ivorian capital of Abidjan to scout for actors. Her next cinema goal is to secure an English-language speaking role, while she is also developing a screenplay about a contemporary female African superhero based on Ivory Coast folklore.
