The contest to host Sundance has come down to three cities (including one very close to home). But can the Sundance identity afford to be uprooted?
In a highly unusual competition that’s been taking place over the last year, all pegged to the future location of the Sundance Film Festival(“Hey, cities of America! The Sundance Film Festival is still profitable for Park City, but in the age of upscale winter vacations for the one percent, the ski season has turned out to be an even more gilded prospect. Though it would be just a 45-minute ride from Park City, the prevailing attitude might be: If Sundance was going to leave its beloved home for all those years to come here, then why didn’t it just go to someplace like Boulder or Cincinnati?
