Camila Cabello Announces New Song ‘Godspeed’ With Pointed Breakup Lyric
Cabello will continue her 'C, XOXO' era with new single 'Godspeed' on Sept. 6 ahead of her performance at the VMAs.
The timing for the single comes after fans have created speculation that Sabrina Carpenter aimed some lyrics from Short ‘n Sweet toward Cabello and both women’s relationships with Shawn Mendes. Fans drew parallels between Cabello’s C, XOXO lyrics, including “If she’s so amazing, why are you on this side of town?/If you like her so much, what are you here trying to find out?” in “June Gloom” and Carpenter’s lines about an ex in “Taste” and “Coincidence.” “It doesn’t quite establish Cabello as a ‘weirdo,’ but its neon-hued chaos does indicate that she’s been allowed to run with her ideas more fully,” read a Rolling Stone review of the LP.
