Céline Dion opened up about how stiff-person syndrome feels 'like somebody is strangling you' in her first TV interview since revealing her diagnosis

The five-time Grammy winner, 56, opened up about her condition to NBC News' Hoda Kotb, in what will be her first televised interview about her health since revealing her diagnosis in 2022, Céline Dion performs during 'Sinatra 100: An All-Star GRAMMY Concert' at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas on Dec. 2, 2015.Ethan Miller / Getty Images In December 2022, Dion revealed that she'd been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare and incurable neurological disease that can cause debilitating muscle spasms, and caused her to cancel all upcoming performances. "Patients can be disabled, wheelchair-bound or bed-ridden, unable to work and care for themselves," they say, adding that the neurological disease with autoimmune features can include symptoms like "hyper-rigidity, debilitating pain, chronic anxiety," and muscle spasms "so violent they can dislocate joints and even break bones."
