The actress then consulted her personal physician and obtained her own diagnosis, a pivotal step that significantly aided her lifelong battle with depression and anxiety. The 44-year-old Dawson's Creek alum told host Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager that she learned she had the disorder after taking her eldest daughter Birdie, now 15, for a doctor's visit. She acknowledged auditioning 'a couple times,' revealing that she also tried out for the character Cheryl, whom she eventually portrayed in the Season 3 episode Dog Day Afternoon.
