Broadway Box Office Smashes Records With $51M Gross As ‘Good Night, And Good Luck’, ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’, ‘Othello’, ‘Wicked’, ‘Stranger Things’ & Others Rake In The Springtime Cash
Deadline's weekly Broadway box office report.
Even more significantly, the gargantuan total was reached with major contributions from a raft of newly arrived star-packed sell-out productions such as Good Night, and Good Luck with George Clooney ($3,882,090, yet another house record at the Winter Garden), Glengarry Glen Ross with Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr ($2,362,516, the production’s fourth house record at the Palace), and Othello with Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal ($3,128,929). The Penzance Musical starring Ramin Karimloo, David Hyde Pierce, Jinkx Monsoon and Nicholas Barasch, was at 97% of capacity at non-prof Roundabout’s Todd Haimes Theatre, with a gross of$509,876. The previewing Real Women Have Curves: The Musical at the James Earl Jones will need very strong reviews (opening night is April 27) to pull it out of the doldrums: Last week the show grossed only$359,659, and even with a $58 average ticket filled only 73% of available seats.
