British legend and 'world's strongest man' dies as family issue statement


World's Strongest Man Geoff Capes, who was one of the UK's most famous faces during the 1970s and 1980s, has died at the age of 75, the family of the shot put legend have announced

Post-retirement, Capes became a revered coach, guiding athletes like Adrian Smith, who secured fifth place in the World's Strongest Man competition in 1990. His children, Lewis and Emma, have continued the legacy as national shot put champions, with grandchildren Donovan and Lawson carrying on the family tradition. A third commented: "Sport was always a huge bone of contention in my house growing up but The Worlds Strongest Man and Kick Start were always happy memories.
