The three-part series is based on the accounts of hospital doctor Rachel Clarke, who attempts to shines a light on what really happened as Covid-19 swept the vastly unprepared UK. Her parents ran a rare-breed sheep farm on a smallholding near Whitby, and Joanne has likened her childhood setting to the backdrop of Emily Brontë’s classic novel Wuthering Heights.
