Blind Strictly star Chris McCausland explains what his dance training entails and reveals why he doesn't want to 'inspire' the visually impaired


The comedian, 47, started losing his sight 20 years ago, between the ages of 16 and 21, due to retinitis pigmentosa which, according to the NHS , sees sufferers lose their sight.

His signing is a first for the dance competition which previously featured deaf EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis who won the glitterball trophy alongside Giovanni Pearce in 2021 Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group of rare, genetic disorders that involve a breakdown and loss of cells in the retina - the light sensitive tissue that lines the back of the eye. Tasha says: 'I’ve been watching the show since I was little – it's a firm Ghouri family favourite - so this is a total dream come true.'
