Black Panther star dies after 'medical procedure' as tributes flood in

Acclaimed South African actress Connie Chiume, who appeared in Marvel's Black Panther movies and Beyonce's project Black Is King, has died at the age of 72

The South African star played Zawavari, a member of the Wakandan tribal council and former leader of the mining tribe in the hugely successful Marvel movie Black Panther and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever alongside Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett and the late Chadwick Boseman. Connie was one of the most notable icons coming from South Africa and her work on activism with HIV and Aids programmes, gender-based violence, those are all things we take inspiration from. She began her acting career on the stage before being cast in the TV series Inkom' Edla Yodwa in 1989 and the movie Warriors From Hell in 1990.
