Billy Elliot actress who 'stunned audiences' dies leaving family devastated


Actress Barbara Leigh-Hunt, who starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s Frenzy, and was known for her roles in Billy Elliot and Pride and Prejudice, has died at her home in Warwickshire at the age of 88

Barbara, who began her career on the stage and won an Olivier Award for her performance at the National Theatre in An Inspector Calls in 1993, was best known on screen for her roles in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1972 thriller Frenzy, the historical drama Henry VIII and His Six Wives and as the vice principal in Billy Elliot. She made her screen debut in a 1969 episode of the spy drama Callan, starring Edward Woodward, and her first movie role was in Alfred Hitchcock’s controversial thriller Frenzy three years later. In between acclaimed returns to the stage, she also appeared in 1988 TV Falklands drama Tumbledown, episodes of Inspector Morse and The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, the comedy As Time Goes By with pal Judi Dench, and as Lady Catherine de Bourgh in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice that starred Colin Firth.
