Beyoncé and Big Freedia face lawsuit over allegations they used material from New Orleans group Da Showstoppaz for multiple tracks without crediting or compensating them
The musical group says they were not credited or compensated for use of their material by the artists in tracks released in 2014 and 2022.
Lawyers for Da Showstoppaz said in a filing that Beyoncé, 42, and Big Freedia, 46, committed acts of 'willful copyright infringement, unfair trade practices, and unjust enrichment' in sampling elements of their 2002 single Release a Wiggle, People reported Thursday after reviewing legal docs. Beyoncé, 42, (pictured last year in LA) and Big Freedia, 46, face a copyright infringement lawsuit in Louisiana from the music group Da Showstoppaz, who say they were not credited or compensated for use of their material by the artists in tracks released in 2014 and 2022 The group said in legal docs that Beyoncé and Big Freedia 'have not acknowledged their contribution, obtained permission to use their copyrighted lyrics, melody, and musical arrangement, nor provided compensation' after sampling their material, according to People.
