Bernard Hill, who played King Théodon in the 'Lord of the Rings' film trilogy and Captain Edward Smith in 'Titanic,' has died. He was 79.

Bernard Hill, the actor known for playing King Théodon in the “ Lord of the Rings ” film trilogy and Captain Edward Smith in “ Titanic,” has died. Hill died early on Sunday morning, his agent Lou Colson confirmed to BBC. Hill first came to prominence as Yosser “gizza job” Hughes in Alan Bleasdale’s 1982 miniseries “Boys From the Blackstuff.” That same year, he appeared as Sergeant Putnam in the Richard Attenborough-directed film “Gandhi.”
