Benedict Cumberbatch kidnapped by armed robbers while filming BBC show

Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed he was kidnapped by armed robbers while filming the BBC mini-series To the Ends of the Earth in South Africa when he was in his late 20s

The 48 year old star of Sherlock was working on the BBC mini-series To the Ends of the Earth when he, former Emmerdale actress Denise Black, who was also in the series, and another friend were ambushed by a gang of six armed men. Before the incident, Cumberbatch had only a few TV roles under his belt before snagging the lead as Edmund Talbot in the BBC's adaptation of William Golding's To the Ends of the Earth novels, acting alongside Denise, Jarred Harris, and Sam Neill. When he spoke about the incident to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2013, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art graduate described how they were like "sitting ducks" after their car tyre burst, and he genuinely feared for his life as they were searched for money, drugs and weapons.
