The BBC has issued a statement on the Giovanni Pernice & Strictly Come Dancing probe
The BBC has been gathering evidence in recent weeks as it examines serious complaints against a dancer widely understood to be Pernice from multiple claimants including, reportedly, Sherlock actor Amanda Abbington, who was partnered with Pernice last year but left the show after a few weeks citing medical reasons. Pernice, who has now quit Strictly, has previously said he is “surprised” by the media reports and rejects “any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour.” Taking time to break silence on an ongoing legal matter is an unusual move from the BBC and is reflective of the gravity of media attention that the story has so far attracted, which ironically remains undimmed by the statement.
