Simon, 51, was filming off the coast of New Guinea in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, as part of his new series about some of the world’s great wildernesses, when he jumped into the water to swim with a shoal of whale sharks. The first, on TV this week, was filmed in the rainforests of Congo, the second amid the dramatic, mountainous landscape of Patagonia in South America, the last in the vast emptiness of the Kalahari Desert in Africa.
