Fans of the much-loved radio presenter, who died on Monday, were quick to vent their fury.
Gopal told viewers: “Tributes continue to pour in from the world of radio for the legendary DJ Steve Wright. Her co-host Roger Johnson spotted the on-air error and quickly said: “That’s not Steve Wright by the way in case you were wondering, that’s Simon Bates.” Viewers were quick to take to social media to express their anger about the blooper, particularly as feelings are still running high that the BBC should never have removed Wright from his longrunning show on Radio 2, where he continued to broadcast to millions of listeners every afternoon – a chair he had inhabited for over three decades.
