BBC EastEnders stars we've loved and lost - from Dame Barbara Windsor to Mike Reid

The EastEnders cast have had their fair share of drama both on and off-screen, here are some of the show's most legendary stars who have sadly passed away over the years

Long-time viewers will fondly recall Dame Barbara Windsor's iconic portrayal of Mitchell matriarch Peggy, and June Brown's consistently brilliant performances as the devout Dot Cotton. Joining the ranks of BBC's flagship soap in its nascent stages back in 1985, June breathed life into the pious and troubled Dot Cotton with her signature chain-smoking flair and devout beliefs. In what became a pivotal moment, Dot recorded a heartfelt tape for her husband, Jim, following his stroke, which catapulted June to BAFTA nomination glory, setting quite the milestone for British soap actors at the time.
