BBC Breakfast apologises for technical issues during tribute to Dame Maggie Smith

BBC Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt was forced to apologise today after a technical blunder saw the show cut off a guest in the middle of a tribute to Dame Maggie Smith

On-air with co-host Nina Warhurst, they were chatting with Lady Fiona Carnarvon about Dame Maggie Smith's death on 27 September, when pesky tech troubles interrupted the tribute. The Royal Family paid tribute with touching words: "As the curtain comes down on a national treasure, we join all those around the world in remembering with the fondest admiration and affection her many great performances, and her warmth and wit that shone through both off and on the stage." Daniel Radcliffe, who played the eponymous wizard, couldn't hide his admiration as he said: "She was a fierce intellect, had a gloriously sharp tongue, could intimidate and charm in the same instant and was, as everyone will tell you, extremely funny.
