Bank holiday on Monday if England win Euro 2024 backed by fans - and PM seems in favour too
's victory against the Netherlands last night has raised the prospect of England finally winning a major tournament when they face Spain on Sunday night. However, some have already been thinking beyond the 8pm kick-off to what will happen on Monday morning - and only true believers will have had the day booked off in their calendars for weeks.
A huge majority of England fans have backed the idea of a special bank holiday being put into place on Monday should the Three Lions beat Spain and win the Euros. Alex Apati from Ladbrokes, who took the poll of fans, said: "Despite dividing opinion for his team's performances in Germany, Southgate is still very much the one, with four-in-ten believing the England boss deserves a knighthood for his efforts in the national dugout." It came after a controversial penalty was awarded that allowed Harry Kane to hammer home an equaliser in a first half that had been dominated by England and saw Phil Foden hit the post.
