Auliʻi Cravalho Reveals How Moana Was 'Allowed to Age' in the Disney Sequel: 'My Voice Has Changed' Since Age 15

'Moana' star Auliʻi Cravalho, now 24 years old, is looking back at a decade since she was cast as Disney's wayfinding chieftess — which now has a new sequel in theaters Nov. 27. 'My voice has changed from when I played her when I was 15, and now her voice is a little different,' she tells PEOPLE.

Auliʻi Cravalho, the star of Disney’s 2016 animated hit Moana and its new sequel(in theaters Nov. 27), is “so grateful to come back” to her wayfinding chieftess, she tells PEOPLE. While the first movie was “focused on connecting with the past,” she continues, Moana 2 “is about connecting to the future and all the things that could come.” And in her full-circle moment of returning to the character who launched her career, Cravalho — currently starring as Sally Bowles in Broadway’s Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club and executive producing the live-action Moana adaptation — is both looking back and ahead. The new movie also includes Moana’s scene-stealing little sister, Simea (voiced by Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda) and “a whole new crew that comes along on this journey,” teases Cravalho with a grin.
