Asian Film Collective Maboroshi Makes Cannes Market Launch With Global Vision (EXCLUSIVE)

Maboroshi, a Tokyo-based film distribution and production label, has officially announced its launch at the Cannes Film Market.

Their upcoming slate includes Ken Loach’s “The Old Oak” (Official Selection, Cannes 2024), Albert Serra’s “Afternoon of Solitude” (Best Film, 2024 San Sebastián Golden Shell), Ho Cheuk Tin’s “The Sparring Partner,” Yin Lichuan’s feminist exploration “Like a Rolling Stone,” and Qiu Jiongjiong’s epic allegorical tale “A New Old Play.” Beyond traditional distribution, Maboroshi will continue spearheading the Chinese Cinema Today initiative, an ongoing cultural program showcasing emerging voices from China’s new generation to Japanese audiences across major cities including Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. The company will pursue various cross-border initiatives spanning script development, co-production, and investment between its Tokyo and Beijing offices, with a focus on creating artistically bold works that maintain strong international market potential.
