As ‘Bad Boys 4’ Hits Box Office, Are Moviegoers Ready to Embrace Will Smith After Oscars Slap?


Sony's "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," the fourth installment in the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-led series, will lead the box office in its debut.

“Ride or Die” rolls into theaters more than four years after the prior entry, “Bad Boys for Life,” which overperformed expectations with $62 million in its debut. And because the pandemic forced the entire movie industry to shutter a few months after its release, “Bad Boys for Life” was the highest-grossing film of 2020. Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra has blamed 2024’s box office downturn on lingering COVID-era disruptions and last year’s dual writers and actors strike.
