Art Garfunkel recalls recent tearful reunion with Paul Simon after 'not seeing each other' for many years
Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon reunited in recent weeks, talking on the phone and meeting for lunch, after years of estrangement and tension-filled accusations.
Aware of a growing public interest in folk music, they regrouped as Simon & Garfunkel and signed a record contract, eventually releasing their debut, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. (1964), which ended up selling poorly. But in the following year, their acoustic song The Sound Of Silence, off the debut record, was overdubbed with electric guitar, bass, and drums and released, becoming a big hit on AM radio, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1965. During their time as a recording duo, they released some of the more enduring music to come out of their era, including songs like Mrs. Robinson, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia, The Only Living Boy In New York, America, Bleeker Street, The Boxer, along with the previously mention The Sound Of Silence, Homeward Bound, and I Am A Rock.
