Armed Man Shot By Secret Service In Confrontation Near The White House


An armed man was shot and wounded by members of the U.S. Secret Service during a shootout early Sunday, authorities said.

The man, who had traveled to Washington, D.C. from Indiana and was described as a “suicidal individual” in a statement by the Secret Service, was taken to a local hospital after the shooting. In a statement, Secret Service Uniformed Division Chief Michael A. Buck said the incident occurred near 17th and F Streets, near the western border of the White House grounds. “Earlier on Saturday, local police shared information about a suicidal individual who may be traveling to Washington DC from Indiana,” Buck said.
