Annie Schindel, Chappell Roan Co-Writer, on How ‘Red Wine Supernova’ ‘Opened Every Door’
Five years ago, Annie Schindel co-wrote 'Red Wine Supernova' with Chappell Roan — now she's collaborating with heroes like Halsey and Ellie Goulding.
When Annie Schindel walked into a blind writing session in 2019, the then-teenager had no idea the track she co-wrote that day — Chappell Roan ‘s campy, glitter-pop anthem “Red Wine Supernova” — would erupt into a viral, and then chart, sensation four years later. After “Hot to Go” and “Good Luck, Babe!” caught fire, “Red Wine Supernova” — which she cowrote with Chappell, producer Daniel Nigro, Lisa Hickox and Amy Kuney — was next. “I was so happy that she was as kind and funny and human as she was.” Throughout her rise, Schindel has found herself drawn to bold, distinctive female voices such as Lyn Lapid, Towa Bird and Renee Rapp.
