Anna Wintour Addresses “Similarities” To Meryl Streep’s ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Role
More than 20 years after the book came out, Anna Wintour is playing coy about whether she inspired 'The Devil Wears Prada' character Miranda Priestly.
While attending a gala performance for the West End musical version of the 2006 film, the Vogue editrix addressed comparisons between herself and the character Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) from the movie and the bestselling 2003 novel by Wintour’s former assistant Lauren Weisberger. Directed by David Frankel, The Devil Wears Prada stars Anne Hathaway as Andy, a recent college graduate desperate for a job in journalism when she is hired as the assistant to Streep’s diabolical Miranda, a position that proves detrimental to her personal life and sanity. It features an original score by Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub & Mark Sonnenblick, a book by Kate Wetherhead and direction & choreography by Jerry Mitchell.
