Animated Films Are 33 Of The Most Watched In Netflix’s New Data Dump: How Streamer’s Originals Stacked Up Against Licensed Titles

Animation continued to resonate strongly for Netflix on Thursday as the streamer unveiled its latest data dump, featuring titles like 'Leo.'

Of the 33 animated titles in the Top 100, five were produced by Netflix; the Adam Sandler starrer Leo ranked the highest at #3 overall, coming in with 96 million views. By far the greatest supplier of Netflix’s top ranking animated films was Universal, which through a exclusive licensing deal, brought 22 titles to the streamer during these months— most of them, from DreamWorks and Illumination. The relative impact of licensed titles in comparison to originals, in this case, is not all that dissimilar from what’s been seen on the TV side at Netflix, given the streamer’s unique gift for making chart-topping phenomena out of old series like Suits.
