Andor Series-Finale Recap: The Place You Helped Build
Freed by Rogue One of so much series-ending baggage, this finale can proceed in a minor key.
And on the flip side, the Andor finale can also proceed in a minor key: quiet, suffused with frustrations and sadness alongside the obligatory hope, as Cassian, Melshi, and Kleya return to a dark and rainy Yavin, where they’re greeted by the none-too-pleased Rebel leaders. Even the mercenary decision to have later Star Wars sequels focus on essentially re-fighting a battle similar to that from the original trilogy winds up folding neatly into Gilroy’s vision of a world where hope is possible, even necessary, but where every victory will require sacrifices that can’t be anticipated. • Even milder continuity-nitpick corner: This was probably inevitable, but in order to leave Andor in a satisfying place as a series, the Rebel Alliance leaders are made to seem far less skeptical at the end of the finale than they are when they refuse to sanction the mission to Scarif in Rogue One.
