Amy Winehouse's Close Friend and Former Housemate Calls Back to Black Film 'Hugely Triggering for Me'

Amy Winehouse's close friend Tyler James shared his thoughts on the new biopic 'Back to Black,' claiming that it 'avoids the uncomfortable.'

James — Winehouse's childhood best friend and former housemate, who The Times Magazine reported is referenced twice in the film — told the outlet on Friday, May 3, that he felt the project had overlooked some aspects of the late singer's life, such as her addiction to drugs. After watching the film, James told The Times that he should've seen it with "a mental health professional next to me," because scenes of the onscreen Winehouse with a crack pipe reminded him of that period in his life. Back to Black also explores "many layers of the iconic artist and the tumultuous love story at the center of one of the most legendary albums of all time," per the synopsis.
