Mandisa Lynn, who shot to fame on season five of American Idol, died at the age of 47 and now a police investigation is underway to determine the cause of her death

The sudden death of American Idol star Mandisa Lynn at the young age of 47 has led to a police investigation. Mandisa, who captured the hearts of millions on season five of American Idol in 2006, built a successful career as a gospel and contemporary Christian recording artist. After her impressive ninth-place finish on the show, she went on to release albums, four of which - True Beauty, Freedom, What If We Were Real and Overcomer- earned Grammy nominations.
