AMC Theaters' Best Picture marathon is MISSING a controversial Oscar nominee... and movie fans are losing it
It's that time of year again - time for AMC's Annual Best Picture Showcase movie marathon. The special event gives fans the chance to watch the movies nominated for Best Picture this year.
'No wonder the film nabbed so many Oscar nominations: Academy members are always going to want their cinematic Mexico to be a pitiable hellhole in need of salvation and a reminder to change its errant ways, a trope that goes back to the days of Manifest Destiny.' 'It’s also the precise sort of preening cinematic onanism that Hollywood types like to think of as visionary, which is the reason the film’s Golden Globes triumph was just followed by a leading 13 Oscar nominations from academy voters.' In the film, Karla portrays titular character Emilia Perez who is a cartel leader who enlists in the help of unappreciated lawyer Rita Mora Castro (played by Zoe Saldana) to help fake her death so that she can finally live authentically as her true self.
