Amanda Seyfried Says Making Peacock’s ‘Long Bright River’ Series ‘Lit a Fire Within Me’

'Long Bright River' star Amanda Seyfried and co-creators Liz Moore and Nikki Toscano discuss the series for Variety Beyond the Page.

Emmy winner Amanda Seyfried wasn’t seeking out a project she could personally relate to, but she ended up finding a cathartic one in “ Long Bright River.” “I wasn’t looking for something grounded and heavy and dark, but it was therapeutic in a way,” Seyfried told Variety’s Angelique Jackson about playing jaded Philadelphia patrolwoman Mickey Fitzpatrick in the Peacock limited series. As part of Variety’s Beyond the Page, presented by Peacock, Seyfried was joined by co-creators Nikki Toscano and Liz Moore (who also penned the novel upon which the eight-episode series is based) for a conversation about the process of bringing Kensington, Philadelphia, to life in an authentic manner, the show’s nuanced perspective on addiction and Mickey as an unreliable narrator.
