Alex Consani makes history by becoming first out transgender woman nominated for Model of the Year at 2024 Fashion Awards
Consani, 21, is only the second trans person overall to be nominated as Model of the Year. She became the youngest trans model signed to a modeling agency at just 13.
Consani was nominated in the model of the Year category, alongside other rising stars and veterans, including Alva Claire, Amelia Gray Hamlin, Anok Yai, Liu Wen and Mona Tougaard. Although she noted that she had a positive upbringing in the Bay Area's Marin County in California, Consani told The Independent that it wasn't until a visit to New York City to check out colleges that she felt as if she had truly found a 'community' for trans people. In that season, she was courted by some of the most high-profile fashion houses and haute couture brands today to walk their runways, including Marc Jacobs, Ferragamo, Mugler, Helmut Lang, Simone Rocha and Thom Browne, among others.
