Al Pacino reveals how he went broke TWICE despite starring in a string of blockbusters and classic films
He's known for starring in some of the most popular and critically acclaimed films of the 20th and 21st centuries.
And because Pacino was still so early in his career, he reportedly only earned about $35,000 for his performance, which would be around $265,000 in today's dollars — well below a lead actor's expected payday for a massively successful Oscar winner made by a major studio. His next film, 1989's Sea Of Love, proved to be a fruitful comeback, as the police thriller — which costarred Ellen Barkin — was a commercial and critical success that helped rescue his floundering career. He followed Sea Of Love up with the Warren Beatty–starring Dick Tracy, in which he played a comical prosthetics-laden villain, and The Godfather Part III, in which he reprised his role as Michael Corleone one final time for Coppola.
