Airline Jokes Are Never Clichés for James Adomian
His “Sky Priority” bit proves that there’s no well-worn comedic premise that can’t be reinvented.
With each sentence, he ratchets up his volume, pride, and hostility, shouting at 10:17, “It means that I’m a priority of these damn skies!” Drinking the Delta Kool-Aid has made him a complete asshole, and Adomian’s archaic posh dialect amplifies his newfound arrogance. At 11:30, as the simultaneously pompous and obsequious gate agent announces the passengers above gold status, the bit, already tilting toward insanity, leaves any attempt to portray a real airport behind and dives fully into Alice in Wonderland –level surrealism. Near the end, the furious Sapphire Squadroneer threatens to alert the “Oneworld Alliance,” and this actual bit of once-unremarkable corporate-speak now sounds ludicrous, just as feeling better than other people based on some airline marketer’s cheap flattery seems absurd.
