Academy Awards to give Oscar for best stunt design starting in 2028

Effort for new award category was lead by Fall Guy director David Leitch, who was also a stuntman for Brad Pitt

After many years of impassioned calls for an Oscar recognizing the art of the stunt, the film academy has decided to give it an official award. “Since the early days of cinema, stunt design has been an integral part of film-making,” the Academy’s CEO, Bill Kramer, and president, Janet Yang, said in a joint statement. Leitch began his career as a stuntman for stars such as Brad Pitt before transitioning to making stunt-heavy films like John Wick.
