‘Wicked’ Overtakes ‘Mamma Mia!’ To Become No. 1 Stage Musical Adaptation Ever At Global Box Office
Universal’s Wicked has overtaken the studio’s own Mamma Mia! to become the biggest stage musical adaptation of all time at the worldwide box office.
The current offshore performance is ahead of Mamma Mia 2, Maleficent, The Little Mermaid and The Greatest Showman(excluding China) at the same point in release. Because of the festive period, holds varied as some markets close cinemas on Christmas Eve and/or Day. During the week, Wicked surpassed the lifetime of The Greatest Showman, and topped Despicable Me 4 to become the third highest-grossing title of the year in the market.
